Leszek Możdżer (born in 1971 in Gdańsk) is a piano virtuoso and one of the most popular Polish jazz musicians. He trained at the Academy of Music in Gdańsk and took up jazz relatively late. Readers of Jazz Forum magazine have repeatedly chosen him as the best Polish jazz pianist, and critics emphasize his exceptional gift for improvisation.
Możdżer became famous for his own interpretations of the music of Krzysztof Komeda and for variations on themes by Fryderyk Chopin. Many of his recordings were released by the German label ACT Music. A special place in his work is held by the trio with the Swedish double bassist Lars Danielsson and the Israeli percussionist Zohar Fresco, whose albums achieved diamond and multi-platinum status in Poland.
Możdżer also composes theatre and film music and has recorded with many international artists. His combination of classical training, jazz freedom and sensitivity to Polish tradition makes him one of the most important figures on the contemporary Polish jazz scene.
